Thanks for taking some time to be interviewed. Can you please introduce your self to our readers and tell us a little bit about what you do?
It’s Du$a I’m the flyest rapper in my City. I’m Fly Spiritually. (As he’s rockin a half evil shirt)
DU$A mane that name is super unique. How did you come up with that? Also I’ve had a chance to check out a few of your tracks, you get down with tons of different styles and flows, what are some of the biggest influences behind your sound?
The name Du$a comes from “Medusa” but I wanted to make it masculine. My curls are like the symbolism of the snakes, and I also got Medusa’s head as my first tattoo. For influences, the beats definitely come from Pi’erre, Tay-K influenced the rawness of the lyrics. The flow I would say, is heavily influenced by ’90s Memphis Music. My cadence and confidence comes from A$AP Rocky, he’s my favorite rapper. Robb Bank$ made me feel comfortable enough to rap about anime.
Ok, I love the variety, from the originators and the new age. How long have you been rapping for and when and where did it start?
I’ve been writing since I was 13 but I didn’t start actually rapping until I was 17. (Under the name K-Dogg)
Ok, so you got some years under your belt in the booth and it definitely shows with the work you’ve produced. What is your local music scene like? Pros? Cons?
The music scene, musically, is great. Nobody thinks logically with the music though. As in, very few artist collab, and if they do it’s usually someone from their hood. Overall though the music, I like it.
I can feel that fasho, it’s crazy I felt like AZ was only like that. I seen you dropped a new album! What’s it called? How many tracks? How much work went into it? What’s it about?
The tape’s called Shenron, 7 tracks for 7 dragon balls. The name really came about because I use the dragon head emoji a lot. It took about a year and a half. Since my last tape I’ve gotten 2 new engineers (Trad45) Think of it as a sample buffet, unlimited listens to all these different versions of Du$. You get some trap shit, some regular Du$, the new Du$.
Aye I rock with that, I’m really diggin that MajinDu$a and Bane tracks! Ok, well with the experience you have now, what advice would you give to someone wanting to enter the scene? What do you wish you had known when you started out?
The advice I would give to artists is, DO VIDEOS!!! No matter how bad you think your music is, if you want people to listen to your music, YOU GOTTA HAVE VIDEOS! People are going to watch videos, they want to see what’s going on! I wish I would’ve done videos! I also wish I knew Trad earlier.
Haha I like that mane! Videos are for sure the biggest obstacle I’ve been facing. Ok, we know who your influences are but what’s your favorite album of all time?
My favorite album of all time…..? Maaaannn…. My favorite album of all time.. Ugh…. Finally Rich, it’s gotta be.
SOSA FOR THE WIN! Hah let’s go ok! Well man with how versatile you are, I’m really curious as to what your writing process is like? Also how does someone get ahold of you for a feature?
My writing process is me freestyling to a beat to find some catchy shit. After that I write the verses. I’ll freestyle and write what I like from that. Basically a mix of punching in at home while writing. You can either hit me up or you could hit Rex up. (Instagram: @rreno63) I’d prefer if you hit him up because he’s a lot less busy.
I can appreciate that bro I really like that you gave us this insight, I also appreciate the fact that you not afraid to show love! Who gets bragging rights for supporting you and helping you get to where you are now?
King Jamar most def, my manager Rex. I definitely gotta give my homie Gino a shoutout. He helped me work on my cadence, and with experimenting. Trad for making me sound like a famous rapper. Everyone that’s been supporting me since 2017.
Dope man, a big ups to everyone who helped my dude get to where he is now! Well with rapping since 2017, what has been your biggest accomplishment in your career so far?
I would say selling every single that’s ever been given to me. I’m able to bring people to a show.
That’s honestly a really badass achievement. Not a lot of artist can say they’ve done that before! Well, on the topic of shows, if you could go on tour with anyone in the world who would you choose. What is your dream tour?
Definitely A$VP! I feel like they’d expose me to the right crowd for my music! Or any underground artist fr my music would definitely fit an underground show of any sort! My dream tour is me, King Jamar, Playboi Carti, Trippie Redd, and Nuk. I just feel those would flow so smooth together.
Ok! I could fasho see you killin a stage with them cats! It would definitely be one the world would remember for a long time! What has been the biggest obstacle you’ve overcome on your journey this far?
Ugh connections fr. Gotta know somebody to get somewhere yanno?
That’s a fact. Connections can take you a long way! Alright mane well I really appreciate you for taking the time to do this again! It was dope getting to dive into the mind and life of Du$a! Is there anything else you would like to add as we wrap this up?
