Good evening! Thanks for taking some time to be interviewed. Can you please introduce your self to our readers and tell us a little bit about what you do?

Hey what’s good, I’m Lula Molton and I’m from Phoenix, AZ. I’m a singer, rapper and songwriter. I make music and write for other musicians.
I’m currently in the navy but my goal is to become a professional musician in the music industry.

Awww sheesh that’s quite the resume! Well first off congratulations on making it into the navy I pray for total success in that for you! Second, that is really rad that you not only create your own music, but you help other artists as well! How long have you been making music? When where and how did it start?

I first started making music when I was 14. I always interested in it. I wasn’t really around instruments but when I was introduced it came natural to me. I learned piano at 9 and guitar/bass later on. You know the American Idol girl who won? Fantasia. I remember watching her movie on tv and wondered if I could sing, so I tried. Then I discovered I could. But I professionally started making music at 17. Going to studios, wasting hella money because I really didn’t know my sound yet. But with time I did and I became better.
Thanks when I first joined the Navy I thought it was gonna be really hard academically and physically. I mean obviously it was but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be.

That’s awesome that those skills came natural to you! I wouldn’t consider that time or money wasted! You’re bettering yourself and sound every time you get behind that mic and put them headphones on! Singing is something I really struggle with so I give you mad props for having that ability! You’re welcome! I am sure you are a great addition to the team and I am grateful to have you apart of the scene and the navy! What are some of the biggest influences behind your sound?

The biggest influence behind my sound would probably be my inspirations like Eric Bellinger, TLC, Chris Brown, Prince, Miguel and there’s so many other artists that I look up to. I don’t even know if I’m able to name them all. But recently I’ve been looking up to Vince Staples, JID, EARTHGANG and Scarlxrd at the moment.
I really like to make my music catchy. Like it gets stuck in your head, like a week from now you think of a melody and it’s me. I just really want to make music everyone can vibe to and for any type of setting.
I look up to mostly rappers because I think lyricism is a big thing that is going away for singers in the music industry. Everyone just wants a minute of beat instrumentals in a song that really has no structure or meaning behind it. I think it should be about the lyrics and the flow in my opinion.

That is an awesome selection of artist to look up to! Also, I feel you on that and the knack for lyricism will take you far in this game! You seem like you have the longevity in you if you continue to grind the way you have been! What’s your writing process like and where is the best place for people to check out your music?

My writing process is just checking out beats and finding a rhythm to it. The beat came first so I shouldn’t try to make it what it’s not. So finding the right way to structure how it sounds is the first thing I do then I usually write about how I’m feeling or someone else’s situation. Or if I saw a movie that day I’d write about the characters situation.
My music is on all platforms. Spotify, Apple Music, ITunes, SoundCloud. Etc.
Also I’m dropping a single on July 27th. It’s called “Bacardi” it has the dopest feature Finesse the Fox. Check him out too. His musics fire af.

Aye that’s some really dope insight to your creative process thank you! It’s really dope to hear that your music is available everywhere! Oh snap ok world you heard it first here! Lula Molton featuring Finesse the Fox July 27th, “BACARDI” ! Thank you so much for that, it is greatly appreciated! Ok, what obstacles did you have to overcome on your journey this far?

Mostly for me I like being low key. I don’t like people knowing about me and stuff. Me doing this puts a giant spotlight on me. You need to have confidence in yourself and your work. That’s what I learned. I do but you know most days are better than some. It’s mostly awkward for me because I made myself public and the people I work with know about it. You know people are gonna say shit. It’s your choice how you should respond. But for me I really do grow into a person who doesn’t give a fuck and believes in their grind.

That’s what I love to hear! People are always going to have an opinion! Never let their thoughts affect you! You rock as an artist and can keep making hits if you want to! What has been your biggest accomplishment in your career so far?

My biggest accomplishment at the moment is hitting 30k on YouTube for my song “Chary”. And also making that song. That song was really hard for me to make. I had it planned out in my head and for a long time it wasn’t sounding good. Also having high streams from people in LA, Las Vegas and my hometown.

Sheeeesh! 30k is pretty wild for a single track good job! I love when I see people listening from other parts of the world! With it almost being the middle of July, what are your plans for the rest of the year?

For the rest of the year I plan to record as much as I can to finish the album I’m working on called “After the Party” it has no release date yet. I plan to perform more. At the moment I really can’t perform at clubs because of covid-19. I have a lot of ideas I want to do and accomplish. At the moment it’s just to finish this album and continue to write for other artists.
Also possibly get signed to an independent label. And get sponsored so my brand can grow an audience.

That all sounds amazing and I definitely believe you can accomplish all of that! I pray for your success, you really deserve it! What’s your favorite album of all time?

Thanks dude and I don’t think I have a specific favorite album. At the moment it’s “Saved by the Bellinger” by Eric Bellinger and “Revenge Of The Dreamers 3” by Dreamville.

I respect that lol! I will have to for sure check out the Bellinger joint! Ok next, What advice would you give to someone wanting to enter the scene?

Probably to be confident in yourself. Surround yourself around good people you can trust. Be open minded. Just because you make music doesn’t make you an expert. Listen to other people’s critiques. That’s how you grow as an artist. Especially if it’s your producer. Figure out what type of genre your music is and practice, practice, PRACTICE! Before booking studio time. Don’t be afraid what others think of you. You creating a song and video is already something someone wishes they could do. So don’t doubt yourself and try to stay positive.

Those are some really awesome positive words right there honestly! I am sure the readers will appreciate that nugget right there. If you could get a feature with any artist, alive or not, who would you choose?

If I could I’d want to have a feature with Miguel. His vocals would be dope. His background vocals in his songs sound really intense and stuff. I would really want to master that and collab with him.
And also XXXTENTACION that would be a really good feature. I miss him he was gone too soon. Especially the stuff he did on “?” I really think me and him would vibe on a track and it would be a banger for real.

Shoot you X and Miguel would have a super banger! I feel the overall mixture of the three voices and styles would be amazing! Ok here’s the next question, Where do you see your self in 5 years?

In 5 years I don’t know. I really don’t think of the future like that. I like living in the moment but I do see myself being successful with music. Having a strong fan base that’s ride or die. Being able to live off my music instead of working a 9-5 job. Living in New York and being signed to Dreamville Records or RCA Records.
I also kind of want to get into directing/writing so possibly shooting short films or movies. Designing shoes and clothes. Basically creating a brand for myself. So I’m not just a singer or entertainer, I’m an entrepreneur.

I can def appreciate that! Those are all some badass goals to strive for! Who gets bragging rights for supporting you and helping you get to where you are now?

Probably my producer Danny. He helped me a lot. He’s a good dude, he’s super talented and I honestly see myself working with him for a while. And SAMW15E, if it wasn’t for him I probably still wouldn’t have gone to the studio because I thought I wasn’t as good as I am. LordPHX, I did a feature with him recently he’s cool. Also my mom, she’s been there since day one. From me street performing at gas stations and downtown to finally releasing music.

Aye shout out to all those that have stuck by your side! It’s def hard to keep your head up by yourself, but with a support system like that, you will continue to grow and prosper! Well I really appreciate you for taking the time to answer these questions! Is there anything else you would like to add as we wrap this up?

Check out my music, it’s on all platforms. Follow me on Instagram and Twitter. @lulamolton , also subscribe to my YouTube channel. But thank you for having me it’s honor to be invited and I appreciate everyone that took the time to read this.
