Thank you for taking some time out of your day for the Clout Culture interview. Can you introduce yourself to our readers and tell us a little bit about what you do?
My name is Shawty Gawd. I’m 6’7″ and I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. I currently live in Seattle. I’m the last Nephilim. I’ve done more acid than the Beatles, and I make music because it’s the only thing I really love. I haven’t slept much lately so sorry if I start rambling.
How long have you been in the Rap game and how did it start?
I guess I’ve been in the game taking my craft seriously for about 3 years with some pretty big gaps in my discography due to rehab and jail and general fuck shit. It started when I was really young. I grew up watching my Uncles spin records and learned how to DJ by 10 years old and I started making beats at 13. I’ve always had the music in me. I grew up with my mom bumping DJ Assault, Disco D and other Detroit ghettotek/booty house artists.
Who gets bragging rights for helping you get to where you are now? Who was your biggest support system?
My twin Samurai and Waffle and Carl X the OG ThizZraeli crew for everything they done for me as my closest friends. I really started taking music seriously when I met Skate God, he showed me alot of game and how to navigate Seattle. Shouts out to LSD, DMT, and Psilocybin too for the spiritual and multidimensional growth. Slime city and all the dirt I did put me on a do or die suicidal attitude took me to where I am now.
Where did you perform for the 1st time? Who else performed that night?
Fuck I think it was at a bar in Kingston Washington with T-Macn, an OG in the rap game and a friend of a friend. I don’t think the crowd was really feeling me that night my music didn’t get good until I went thru the nine circles of hell and back.
What would be your dream tour? If you went on tour with anyone in the world, who would be on the bill with you?
Of course I’d be headlining with my twin Samurai the Chosen Shogun and I’d also have Tommy Wright iii, King Krule, and Black Kray
What are some of the biggest influences behind your sound?
Lust, heartbreak, hate, love, dmt, mushrooms, LSD, fighting, fucking, living life like I’m not gonna make it to 25 but I did so now I’m really channeling that energy into my music. I’ve seen it all. I listen to ALOT of music but I’m more inspired by silence and mania.
Very interesting. What’s your local scene like and what are some of the pros and cons?
The local scene is cool and it’s alot more than Lil Mosey and Macklemore. I kinda went crazy last year and distanced myself from alot of people but there is a lot of talent in Washington. This summer I’m gonna get back to doing punk house shows and diy shit Seattle is still grungey still thuggin.
What’s your writing process like and how does someone get ahold of you for a feature?
I’ll either write random verses and mash them together on something or it’s lightning in a bottle whole song written in 20 minutes. Most of my best songs were the latter. My email or my Instagram both work for business transactions.
What are your plans in music for the rest of the year?
Finish this solo album, shoot videos for everything, and move back to LA when I’m off probation. I started making beats again so you’ll see alot of production from me as well.
What did you get probation for!?
Some bullshit honestly I’ve got a long record I’m not planning on going to jail again soon
Yea stay out here fam. Other than getting caught up. What are some of the obstacles and hardships you have been hit with in this music shit?
Honestly just being a drug addict in the past and getting wrapped up in the lifestyle has been holding me back the most. It’s been hard to stay focused on music when I’m really in the streets. All I care about now is the music though I can’t fuck up again or I’m dead.
