Chicago duo Two Depressed Kids (TDK), standouts from Lupe Fiasco’s 1st & 15th label, never hold back when it comes to expressing how they feel. Today, they share the music video for “Tear It All To Pieces,” a highlight track from their recent EP Balloons At A Funeral. Produced by Chicago legend Soundtrakk, “Tear It All To Pieces” is a cathartic anthem about feeling stuck while watching peers go on to fulfill their life goals: “I’m so happy for you all / But I just wanna die, tear it all to pieces ‘cuz nothing’s going right / And everybody’s leavin’, I thought that I’d be fine.” In the video, the duo of Jake and Drew unleash their darkest emotions, with Jake celebrating a lonely 26th birthday and Drew reflecting in an empty library. The duo eventually link up on a rooftop during sunset where they release their feelings through music, jamming out on the drums and an electric guitar.
“Tear It All To Pieces” appears on TDK’s recent EP Balloons At A Funeral, a 4-track EP filled with shout-along choruses, driving guitars, and lyrics that navigate the disappointment that accompanies the transition from hopeful adolescence to the realities of adulthood. Featuring production from the legendary Soundtrakk on three of the songs, the EP’s title is a perfect metaphor for their worldview, as they work tirelessly to find nuggets of joy in a gloomy world.
Signed to 1st & 15th by Lupe Fiasco, who has brought them as openers on multiple recent tours, Two Depressed Kids have made their name in Chicago with energetic performances and sharp songwriting. Earlier this year, TDK shared “Not In Love,” a bouncy, Soundtrakk-produced single that earned coverage in HipHopDX, “Can I Do It By Myself,” and”Woke Up Today,” another Soundtrakk-produced effort.
